Donation Is Legal Only Through Regulated Channels

Any arrangement involving payment for an organ is illegal and unsafe for both donor and recipient — we only work within the regulated framework.

Is buying or selling a kidney legal in India?
No. Under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), 1994, buying or selling organs is a criminal offence. Only regulated donation — from a close relative or through the deceased-donor NOTTO registry — is legal.
Who can be a living kidney donor?
Close relatives (spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild) can typically donate after medical and legal clearance through a state authorization committee. Unrelated donations require additional government approval to rule out commercial transactions.
How long is the waiting list for a deceased-donor kidney?
Waiting times vary widely by state and blood group, often ranging from months to several years. NOTTO's registry manages allocation transparently based on medical urgency and waiting time.
